Fire and Safety Drills

Please know that per State and Federal Regulations, all schools are required to hold fire drills every month. We also are required to hold two lockdown and evacuation drills each year. Be sure that your children are dressed appropriately for the cold weather to be prepared for these drills. They definitely need sweatshirts, coats, hats, and gloves. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.

Student Pick Ups

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Each year it is very important to understand and follow our protocol for picking up your children at school.  This is for the safety and security of each child.  If you are picking up your child at the end of the day you park in the Visitor Lot in the back of the school near the soccer fields.  You walk to the back of the school and wait outside the gymnasium doors.  It is absolutely necessary to provide the staff with a photo identification.  You also sign the pick up list.  Students who are not on the pick up list will be in the bus lines.  A pick up note must be sent to the classroom teacher in the morning.  Students are only released to authorized persons as stated by the parents in our registration packet.  Thank you very much for your cooperation and patience as we become familiar with our new students and families at NSES!

Every year, our students take a number of state assessments. We share the results of these assessments with you in order to give you an idea about the progress your child is making in school. We also use the results of these assessments to help us improve classroom instruction and to identify areas where students may need some extra support. The North Smithfield School Department will be implementing the PARCC assessment this Spring.

A few changes based on feedback have been made to the assessment:
• Consolidation of the two testing windows that stretched from March to June into one testing period
• Reduction the number of test units
• Reduction of the testing time for students by 90 minutes overall (30 minutes in English language arts, 60 minutes in mathematics); and
• Flexibility in setting testing schedules within the testing period

Updating After School Day Care/Dismissal

All Kids Klub and Briarwood Academy pick-up and drop-off and all other daycare information will be deleted from the previous school year and revert back to the student's home address.

Please know that you MUST resubmit the student dismissal form as soon as possible to the school, but no later than two weeks prior to the opening of school each year.  These requests must be reviewed and approved using the correct form.  "Permanent" parent pick-up information should be submitted to the NSES office in the same fashion.

This is very important information; should you have questions, please call the school at 765-2260.

Thank you!
