NECAP Results for North Smithfield!
We are extremely proud to release the NECAP scores from this past October. Students in grades three through eight and grade 11 take the assessments in October of each year. Our students did exceptionally well! Deborah Gist, the Commissioner of Education, recognized North Smithfield last Friday at a press conference for our sustained improvement in the area of writing. It has been a joint effort of parents, students, teachers and administrators that has brought this great success. Congratulations to all!

This is a great way for those thinking of playing to give the sport a try. All ages are welcome and the only equipment needed is a pair of sneakers! Second Time Around Sports will be on hand with new and used lacrosse equipment!

Kindergarten Registration
Our annual Kindergarten Registration dates and times have been set. Please come to NSES on either of these days to register your child for the 2012-1013 School Year. The dates are:
Tuesday, March 27th 5:00 to 8:00 PM
Saturday, April 28th 9:00 to 12:00 noon
Please see the main district page to download and print all six documents needed for registration. Be sure to bring them completed to registration. Mrs. Marilyn Kelley, school nurse and Mrs. Toni Holcomb, school secretary will be there to review and collect your documents. Please be sure to bring everything so that records are complete.
Upcoming PTO Events!
Here is the short list of wonderful events for you and your children to participate in over the next two months:
- Family Movie Night at NSES on Friday, January 20th from 6:30 to 8:30 PM.
- Providence Bruins Night on Friday, February 17th at 7:05 PM
- Family Ice Skating Night on Tuesday, February 21st at the Smithfield Ice Rink from 4:00 to 6:00 PM
- Entertainment for Dr. Seuss Night at NSES on March 2nd. More details coming in February.
- Family Fun Night at NSES on March 22nd. More details to follow...

Surveyworks! Survey for Parents at NSES
The annual Surveyworks! from the Rhode Island Department of Education is underway starting this week. Students in grades 4 to 12 fill out the surveys unless parents choose to opt out. A letter was sent home this week with your child explaining how you, as parents, can complete this simple ten minute survey.
The quickest way to do this is online at http://www.surveyworks.ride.ri.gov. You could also obtain a paper copy in the NSES office should you prefer that method. Envelopes will be provided so that your responses are confidential. If you have any questions about this survey, please contact the SurveyWorks help desk between 8:00 and 4:00 at 1-877-787-5725 or at surveyworks [at] wested [dot] org.

Winter Bus Routes Posted
The winter bus routes have been posted on the main website and began on Tuesday, January 3, 2012. Be sure to check our main website. Also, school cancellation information is posted on the main webpage. This is very important when it comes to snow storms and the possible delay of school opening.
Outdoor Recess
Our students have outdoor recess twice a day. We ensure that children get fresh air and exercise with their classroom and also at lunch time. With the coming winter season, we ask that you dress your children appropriately for the season. Coats, hats and mittens are a must! Thank you for your cooperation.
Parent Teacher Conferences
Please remember that our Parent Teacher Conferences will be held tomorrow, Thursday, November 17th and on Thursday, December 1st from 5 to 8 PM. You still have time to make an appointment to meet with your child's teacher.
Also, our annual Scholastic Book Fair is going on this week only and Mrs. Linda Roderick would be happy to show you around this wonderful event held in the Media Center. There are great books to purchase for birthdays and Christmas.
Lastly, the PTO fundraiser items are here in Room 14 at the end of Wing A. A board member from the PTO will be available to get your items during the conferences on Thursday, November 17th from 5 to 8 PM.
